- Dennis “Chip” Wilson is one of the 20 richest people in Canada, with a net worth (in 2013) of almost $3 billion dollars.
- Wilson is married to Shannon, and the two currently live in an almost $40 million custom home built in the Vancouver area. They have five sons.
- Chip loves art and music: for one of his birthday parties, he flew in the Red Hot Chili Peppers at a reported cost of $1 million.
- Both of Chip’s parents were into athletics, and he spent his youth between Canada, and growing up in San Diego.
- Wilson’s Westbeach Sports (it came before Lululemon) was in part responsible for the huge rise in interest of skateboarding in the 1990s. He left the company in 1997.
- Lululemon Athletica Inc., Wilson’s most well-known business venture, was formed in 1998, in a trendy Vancouver district. It shared space with a yoga studio, which significantly helped cement the business.
- Controversy has dogged Mr. Wilson most of his life, but in particular as his wealth and fame grew. He read Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged when he was 18, and at one point in Lululemon’s recent history, had the saying “Who is John Galt?” on the store’s bags. Not a good thing, as it turned out!
- The Wilsons believe in a healthy lifestyle, and to that end, recently created a company called WHIL. One of its premises is that a daily 60-second mediation will help change lives: yours and others.
