On one of his skating idols:
“Always looked up to Brian and his skating. I loved his skating and what he had done for the sport. And the triple axel, that was the thing. And I wanted a triple axel.”
“My mom was a dancer and my dad is a singer and I’ve always had that kind of music in my life.”
Perhaps on why he’s good, very good, at many things:
“After you’ve done it for so many years, you have to find a new direction. You have to find something in your soul that’s going to push you…”
On his discontent with some of the judging he’d seen (mostly at competitions he didn’t compete at):
“The International Skating Union has taken the risk out of figure skating and it makes me sick.”
Concerning the source of inspiration:
“When you’re younger, your inspiration is there. As you get older, it tends to waver. Once you find it – I found it again – that’s where you can draw from. That’s where you draw your strength from.”
“By no means because I am a World Champion will I ever stop learning and that’s the biggest thing that’s difficult for someone to see.”
