In his film Beginners, as the character Hal in response to a question from his ‘son’ Oliver:
“The chair is not gay, obviously.”
On aging and getting to play recurring roles (whether on stage or in film):
“And Hamlet you can never do well enough until you are my age.”
Plummer enjoys playing evil characters more than good ones because
“The devil is more interesting than God.”
On the continuous, never-ending fascination and adoration people have with The Sound of Music, Plummer has had much to say:
“Yeah, it drives me nuts.”
“it’s just a relentless pursuing of this film that goes on and on…”
“God almighty what is the matter with people?”
And years later, on the occasion of having to watch the film with a group of children:
“It’s timeless and I’m grateful for it.”
