Robert Munsch is known by children everywhere. He is one of the most successful and interesting Canadian children’s authors, so I was surprised to discover that he was not born Canadian.
He currently has about 35 books in print. My children’s favourite was ‘Something Good’.
Munsch’s books have the amazing ability to mesmerize children and adults alike.
I’m not sure when I wrote the above – early 2000’s most likely. There wasn’t any information on the internet about the author at the time which is why the content on this page was sparse. It’s now 2011 and Robert Munsch has a website. My teenagers will soon be leaving the nest and I continue to have fond memories of reading his stories to them. They don’t allow me to hug and kiss them much anymore so now I dream of pulling them on my lap while they sleep and telling them “I will Love You Forever”.
Love You Forever has sold about 15 million copies for Munsch, it’s a different type of children’s story but obviously spoke to many about the depth of love we have for our children no matter their age. I was surprised to learn that it was written for two babies he and his wife lost. It makes the book even more haunting.
Munsch’s books are quirky and fun, exactly the type of content to attract kids. Several years ago the author was diagnosed as obsessive-compulsive and manic-depressive. Perhaps the challenges he has faced in his life are also what has created a wonderfully talented and brilliant children’s author.
Robert Munsch – we will love you forever.
